EEnhancement of Chikungunya virus replication and inhibition of interferon production by actinomycin D
Autor(es): HELLER E
Resumo: The effect of actinomycin D on the growth of Chikungunya virus in chick cells and on interferon production resulting from such infection was studied. It was found that actinomycin led to an enhanced yield of virus from 5 to 24 hours post-infection while interferon production was inhibited by 99%. The effect on interferon production appeared to precede the effect on virus yield and may be responsible for viral enhancement. It was concluded that in this system interferon production, but not virus growth, probably requires functional cellular DNA.
