Resumo: To evaluate the larvicidal actk ity of plant extracts on iedes aegypti. Methods: Petroleum ether. Chloroform and aqueous extracts obtained from Actiljpha indica, Aerra lanata, Boerhaavia diffusa, Commelina benghalensis, Gompherna sps, Datum stramonium, Euphorpia hirta. Cytodon daetylon. Lantana camara and Tridax procumbens were used for larvicidal activity at concentration of 1000 mu g/ml and the mortality rate was calculated after 24 and 48hrs. The for the extracts were also estimated after 24 Ins. Results: The petroleum ether extract of Lantana camara, Tridax procurnbens and Datnra stramonium showed WO% mortality after 4Shrs of incubation. Tridax procumbens petroleum ether extract had the least LC of 219 r g/rol followed by Lantana and Datura with 25Ianci 288 mu g/ml respectively. A combination of petroleum ether extracts of Aerra Janata and Cynodon dactylon, Boerhaaria diffilsa and Gamine/inn benghalensis exhibited Inn% mortality of larvae. Formulation-I inhibited the metamorphosis of the larvae by retaining 60% in its larval stage. Petrolemn ether extracts of Lantana, Tridax, Datum and a combination of extracts were effective Ian icide. The formulations proved to be effective in inhibiting the metamorphosis. Alkaloids and flavonoids were present in datum petroleum ether extract. Conclusions: Either the crude extracts of Datum stramornum, Lantana camara and Tridax procumbens or its phytochemicals can be used as effective vector control agents individually or in combination.
