Resumo: The purpose of this report is to discuss the clinical characteristics, frequency and incidence of 56 cases of the Guillain-Barré syndrome studied during a nine years period (1982-1991). Results are discussed and main topics pointed out are: incidence of the syndrome at the withered part of the State of Alagoas, sex-age, and long-term risk factors for people living in this region.
