Resumo: Field experiments on the control of A. aegypti have been carried out in Bangkok using the larvicide 1% Abate sand granules and adulticide Malathion thermal fog, both singly and in conjunction. The larvicide was added to all water containers and the adulticide used within and between the houses. Larval habitats wee examined at intervals one month before to 27 weeks after treatment, and adult quantities estimated by the number landing on human bait at randomised stations. Oviposition traps were employed to collect eggs. Dispersal of thermal fogs almost eliminated field population but recovery was suppressed by the application of larvicide. When the latter was used alone the density declined gradually reaching a very low level in a forthnight, this reduction was not as complete as when fogs were also used. However, the effective control period obtained by application of larvicide was 8 weeks and this was not prolonged by additional use of thermal fogs.
