ResumoA new compound named eucamalol and 4-isopropylbenzyl alcohol were isolated as mosquito repellents from the essential oil of Eucalyptus camaldulensis. The structure of eucamalol was elucidated to be 3-formyl-6alpha-isopropyl-2-cyclohexen-1beta-ol by H-1 NMR analysis and confirmed by synthesis. Both compounds exhibited potent repellent activities against Aedes aegypti.
