Electron-microscopic study of schellackia-cf-agamae sporozoite infection in mosquitos
Autor(es): Paperna, I
Resumo: Mosquitoes, Culex molestus and Aedes aegypti, were processed for electron microscopic study 5-7 days after engorgement on Agama stellio lizards demonstrating chronic Schellackia cf. agamae infection. Sporozoites were found within parasitophorous vacuoles in the gut epithelial cells. The parasites retained the fine structural features characteristic of blood and liver sporozoites in the reptilian host. There was evidence of slight damage to the host cells.
