Resumo: 4 strains of Aedes aegypti and 1 strain of A, albopictus mosquitoes were tested for their susceptibility to infection after the ingestión of chikungunya virus. The 4 strains of A. aegypti mosquitoes were all relatively resistant to infection while the A. albopictus mosquitoes were significantly more susceptible. The incubation period of the infection in A. aegypti mosquitoes was 3-4 days and transmission of the virus to suckling mice by biting was observed up to 53 days after ingestión of the virus. The optimal transmission period was from the 5th to the 14th day
