Guillain-Barré syndrome: the illness.

Autor(es): Tweed G.

Resumo: Polyneuritis can occur in the course of other disorders-diphtheria, alcoholism, diabetes, poisoning (arsenic and lead), for example-or it may occur alone. Guillain-Barre syndrome is an example of polyneuritis of unknown origin. But, whatever the cause, the care of patients is similar: rule out other disease, give symptomatic care, prevent complications, and help the patient back to recovery through all measures known to medicine and nursing. These articles describe the course of the illness and indicate some approaches in nursing care.
